GEORGE STAMP TAYLOR, M.C., obtained his technical training at Faraday House and with John Fowler and Co. and in the Leeds Corporation Electricity Works. After serving in the Boer War he returned to Leeds and was employed for a short time as Assistant Mains Engineer in the Corporation Electricity Department. In March, 1902, he was appointed Assistant Electrical Superintendent by the North-Eastern Railway Co., and remained with the company until the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, during which he served in the Northumberland Fusiliers and attained the rank of Major, being also awarded the Military Cross. In 1919 he went to New Zealand as the representative of Reyrolle, Ltd., and later transferred to Sydney on being appointed their Manager for Australia and New Zealand. On retiring he returned to New Zealand, where, he died on the 30th May, 1942. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, a well-known stage and screen artist. He was a man of very varied attainments and also a strong advocate of hobbies, his own including tapestry needlework, the breeding of tropical fish, and gardening. He joined The Institution as a Student in 1898, and was elected an Associate in 1902, an Associate "Member in 1903 and a Member in 1919.
