Gertrude Lilian Entwisle (1892–1961), engineer

1892 born in Swinton, Lancashire daughter of Thomas Henry Entwisle (1858–1937), clerk in a shipping warehouse, and his wife, Elizabeth Ann, née Shorrocks (1854–1932).

1915 Began work for British Westinghouse

1916 Became the first woman student member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers

1919 Became a graduate member of the IEE.

1919 Joined the Women's Engineering Society immediately on its formation, having corresponded with many other women who had entered engineering during the war.

Member of the national executive committee of the Electrical Association for Women during its early years.

1939 Small motor designer for Metropolitan Vickers

1941-3 President of the Women's Engineering Society

1954 Retired from Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co after an uninterrupted career of 39 years as an electrical design engineer.

1961 Died at Sale.
