1835 'On Monday last, the foundation stone of the new gasometer and gas-works, at Glastonbury, was laid by Thomas Porch Porch, esq; amidst the cheers of the assembled multitude accompanied by the usual demonstrations of joy, ringing of bells, &c. This undertaking will be of great advantage to the town, and shares are already at a premium.'[1]
