1887 Description and illustrations of quadruple-acting steam pump designed to do light as well as heavy duty, arranged with a movable eccentric to vary the cut-off in the steam cylinders, ranging from one-eighth of the stroke for light duty to following the piston, to about eight-tenths of the stroke. This was one of several engines and pumps shown at the 1887 Royal Jubilee Exhibition Manchester.[1]

Britannia Foundry, Stalybridge
The 1892/1894 O.S. map [4] shows the foundry bounded by Whitelands Road, Clarence Street, the Huddersfield Canal, and the Enterprise Nail Works. The foundry was approx 250 yards north west of the Globe Iron Works of John Summers and Sons.
