Gray was an American firm, based in Detroit from about 1910 until the 1970s. Many fishing boats, lobsterboats, tugs and pleasure craft used Gray engines. Boats were usually of small size, ranging from 12 to 32 feet. Gray also produced a line of outboard motors with the unique drive right angle curved shaft. It built gasoline engines ranging from one to six cylinders in both gas and later diesel layouts which were used in pleasure and work boats
The Company worked for over fifty years, building engines for fishboats, cruisers and WWII Landing Craft, and the famed Higgins Boats.
