1793 Opened Webster's Ropery, a partnership of John Grimshaw (1763-1840), Rowland Webster and Ralph Hill

Opened what was probably the world's first factory for machine-made rope, eliminating the need for a rope walk.

1804 Production reached 800 tons per annum

1817 Partnership dissolved

Grimshaw continued to run the business, which presumably became John Grimshaw and Co
