1860s Atlantic liners, Montana and Dacota were built for the line by Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Co, 400 feet in length, with an abnormal slope of side, flush shell plating, and water-tube boilers.

1880 Acquired SS Abyssinia from Cunards

1882 Built works in Strand Road, Bootle

Possibly later became Liverpool and Great Western Steamship Co

1895 The Bootle works were taken over by Frederick Leyland and Co
