Gunton Sawmill

From Graces Guide

Gunton Sawmill Whitepost Road - Gunton Park, NR11 7HJ Hanworth, Norfolk.

Gunton Sawmill is an extremely rare working example of an estate sawmill powered by water. The building is timber framed with the Norfolk reed thatched roof and was constructed in the 1820s to house a unique frame saw with the vertical reciprocating blades thus illustrating the first steps from hand to power sawing by a mechanised pit saw. The water to power the water wheels comes from the ornamental lake in front of the imposing hall built in 1742 for Sir William Harbord.
