Harold Duke Smith (1867-1940)

Born the son of Aston William Smith, a Railway Contractor

1908 Appointed to succeed T. H. Gibbons as engineer for the Plymouth division of the Great Western Railway. 'Mr. Harold D. Smith, who is now at Paddington, has had western experience, having had charge of Taunton district, which is that part the Plymouth division east and north of Exeter. He has also had considerable experience of new works construction.'[1]

1911 Residing at Hangher Farm, Cornwood, Ivy Bridge, Devon: Harold Duke Smith (age 43 born Wavertree), Civil Engineer.

1940 Died. 'Mr. Harold Duke Smith of Ivy Cottage Ivvbridge, late divisional engineer of the Great Western Railway, a member of the County Council.... Probate has been granted his widow. Mrs. Kathleen Margaret Smith, the above address, the sole executrix.'[2]
