H. and D. Cleland

From Graces Guide

of Belford Bridge, Edinburgh

1938 The business of H. and D. Cleland, coachbuilders and motor engineers, of which Hugh Cleland and David Cleland were the sole owners, was sold and transferred to Hugh Stafford Cleland, to carry on under the same name.[1]

1947 H. and D. Cleland Limited was registered, with capital of £20,000, to carry on the business of motor engineers, mechanical and general engineers, electrical, radio, marine and aviation engineers.[2]

1972 The company was taken over by Renault, with whom they had a long association. They were said to be the first Renault car dealers in the world outside of France and, because of this historic association, the Cleland name was to be retained.[3]

1984 The company was dissolved.[4]
