HR Wallingford had its origins in 1947 as the Hydraulics Research Organisation, initially located at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington.

1951 The Hydraulics Research Station was established at Howbery Park, Wallingford, then in Berkshire, now Oxfordshire.

1982 Privatised, as the Hydraulics Research Station Ltd. Renamed Hydraulics Research Limited (HRS) in 1983.

1991 Renamed HR Wallingford Ltd.

1993 HR Wallingford Group Ltd formed.

2019 Acquired the Marine Hydrodynamics division of Manchester-based Cussons Technology, combining Cussons’ expertise in force measurement with HR Wallingford’s expertise in wave generation and measurement.
