"Lt.-Colonel HARRIE DE MUSSENDEN ROSE, R.A.S.C., was born in 1883 and, after receiving his education at Wellington College, obtained his commission in the infantry, but two years later he exchanged into the Army Service Corps, in which he served to the end of his professional career. After attending courses in mechanical transport at the Training Centre, Aldershot, he served his apprenticeship with Messrs. J. I. Thornycroft and Company, Basingstoke. In 1914 he was appointed chief instructor at the motor transport depot, Grove Park, Kent. Promoted to brevet lieutenant-colonel in 1916, he was for the next four years Deputy Assistant Director of Transport at the War Office and was responsible for the whole of the mechanical transport in this country.
He then proceeded to India to take up the appointment of technical inspector, southern circle, and subsequently received the command of the medium repair shop at Peshawar. Returning to England five years later he served at Feltham, Middlesex, until 1929 when he obtained his final appointment as 0.C., the depot at Kensington, which he retained until his retirement on account of ill-health in 1933. Colonel Rose, whose death in his sixty-second year occurred on 16th February 1945, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1924."
