Company formed from R. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Co after its shipbuilding interests were nationalised and the company acquired electrical engineering companies. Owned by Starwest Investment Holdings

1986 USM-quoted Andrew Leslie group announced plan to reverse into the privately-owned Hawthorn Leslie[1]

1987 February: Andrew Leslie acquired British Central Electrical Co of Weybridge, Briticent Internationa of Ringwood, and J. Dyson and Co of Bradford. Name changed to Hawthorn Leslie Group plc[2]

1987 July: Acquired Electrical Trades Supply Co of Birmingham

1987 Also acquired S. K. Fey and Son and Technique Labels of Haverhill, specialist printers for the pharmaceutical industry.
