HENRIQUE SCHEID was born in Bavaria on the 12th December, 1829, and at the age of fifteen went to Brazil.
In 1854 he began his professional career in the Public Works Department of the Province of Rio de Janeiro, occupying at the same time an office in the Imperial Revenue.
In 1862 he became connected with the Dom Pedro II Railway as an assistant to Mr. Francisco Pereira Passos, superintendent of construction works.
He remained in the service of that railway until 1872, when he was appointed by the Imperial Government a member of the Commission of Construction of the Madeira and Mamore Railway in the Province of Amezonas.
In 1873 he returned to the Dom Pedro II Railway, where he remained, as superintendent of a section, until 1880, when he was appointed a district engineer on the improvement works of the Rio d'Ouro Tramway.
In 1891 he again returned to the Dom Pedro II Railway (now called the Central) and remained as Resident Engineer till the 20th March, 1896, when he died of yellow fever at Rodeio.
Mr. Scheid was elected an Associate Member on the 1st April, 1884.
