Henry Castle
c.1809 Born in Deptford, son of George Castle, a shipwright, and his wife Ann.
George was involved in ship repairing at Rotherhithe for over 20 years. Subsequently he moved the business downstream to be operated from the site of Well's Yard and from the former Randall and Brent Yard just north of the Commercial Dock.[1]
c.1832 Henry moved to Australia
1837 returned from Australia, presumably involved in ship-related business.
1841 Henry Castle 30, shipowner, lived in Rotherhithe with Harriet Castle 25, Henry Castle 5 (born in Sidney, New South Wales), Sidney Castle 2.5, Abercrombie Castle 1[2]
1841 Henry moved into the King and Queen Dry Dock, Rotherhithe (a short distance downstream from the Bullhead Dock, and beyond that the Surrey Canal Wharf).
1845 Henry Castle became sole occupier of Baltic Wharf and Bridge Wharf, both on the south side of the Thames, close to Vauxhall Bridge
1851 Henry Castle 43, timber merchant, employing 10 men, lived in Westminster, with Harriet Castle 32, Henry Castle 14, Sidney Castle 12, Abercrombie Castle 10, Frederick Castle 9, Amy Castle 8, Marcellus Castle 3[3]
1861 Henry Castle 52 ship broker, lived in Wandsworth, with Harriet Castle 46, Sydney Castle 22, ship breaker, Thomas Castle 9, Maria Castle 8, Septimus Castle 6[4]
1864 Henry Castle, a timber merchant, ship breaker and barge owner, took his son Sidney Nash Castle into partnership [5]
1865 Died in Wandsworth, ship breaker and barge builder[6]
