Mathews, Henry Montague Sagundo, C.S.I. (1911), retired Commissioner of Settlement and Land Records, Burma; s. of H. M. Mathews, C.I.E., formerly Chief Engineer, Burma; b. in Ordunia, Spain, 1860; educ: Medical College, Epsom, and Cooper’s Hill College; joined service as Assistant Superintendent of Telegraphs, 1879-86; in charge of Government Telegraphs in the 3rd Burmese War, 1885-86 (war medal); Assistant Commissioner, Burma, 1886; Assistant Commissioner and Settlement Officer, 1888; Deputy Commissioner, 1898; Revenue Secretary to Government of Burma. 1900-1902; acting Divisional Commissioner, 1906-1907.
