1830 Henry Richardson of Bala invented the tubular lifeboat, having had the idea from observation of a wreck at Weymouth, and an examination of Blanchard's cylindrical air pontoon as used by the Royal Engineers in bridges and rafts[1]

1831 Three of his boats were built

1851 High Sheriff for Merioneth, and Land Proprietor; living in Bala with Caroline Richardson 49, and Henry Thomas Richardson, magistrate, 24[2]

1861 Henry and Caroline Richardson lived in Bala[3]
