HENRY STOWE BELL died on March 15, 1894, under distressing circumstances. He committed suicide during temporary insanity, as the result of an unfounded accusation. He was a student at the Royal School of Mines from 1870 to 1873, and graduated in the metallurgical division. According to the Times of March 17, he was at one time in the British Consular service in Greece.

He was elected a member of the Iron and Steel Institute in 1883.
