of Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre, France

1792: On the site of the paper mill of Noel Jelin at Saint-Rémy-sur-Avre, Henry Sykes (from England) built the first spinning mill, called "l'Ancienne", deriving its power from the River Avre. His only daughter Grace married William Waddington and thus began the "Waddington" dynasty.[1]
