1933 'After being closed for three years and a half, during which one attempt to restart succeeded for a period of five months, Orchard Mill, Darwen, better known locally as "Thompson's" is being reopened under new management. The mill has been taken over by Mr. Herbert Parkinson, of Blackburn, who has had 40 years' experience in the cotton trade, being connected with Roe Lee Mills, Blackburn, during that time. He is well-known in manufacturing circles, with close upon 35 years' association with the Manchester Exchange. A start has been made in the preparatory departments, and it is expected that weaving will be resumed within a fortnight. The mill contains 360 looms, each equipped with dobby or jacquard motion, and the fancy cloth to be produced will be for the home market. When fully engaged work will be found for 130 operatives.'[1]

1953 Acquired by the John Lewis Partnership

1960 The John Lewis Partnership transferred the business to Sunnyhurst Mill, alongside Birch Hall and renamed it 'Harvest Mill',
