Hexham Bridge

From Graces Guide

1793 The nine-span masonry bridge over the River Tyne is a reconstruction of John Smeaton's first completed bridge on the site. This collapsed during a flood in March 1782, two years after completion, an event which affected the engineer deeply. This was the fifth bridge built within 30 years of each other; previous ones destroyed by flood.

Smeaton died in October 1792 and so did not live to see the reconstruction, which survives until this day.
