From Graces Guide

of Dumbarton

Whisky distillers.

1936 Hiram Walker and Sons (Scotland) Limited, of 20 Renfield Street, Glasgow was registered as a private company, with capital of £1,000, to carry on the business of distillers, wine and spirit brokers and manufacturers.[1] The company was apparently to be the Scottish subsidiary of Hiram Walker-Gooderham and Worts Limited of Walkerville, Ontario, Canada. However, the original company was voluntarily liquidated the following year as part of a rationalisation process by its parent company of its various Scottish assets.[2]

1937 Dumbarton Distillery Limited was registered as a private company, with capital of £600,000.[3] It was converted into a public company on 29th October and changed its name on 1st November to Hiram Walker and Sons (Scotland) Limited. This coincided with the issue of £1 million of debenture stock, which was in turn related to the development of a new grain distillery at Dumbarton at an estimated cost of £450,000, which was to have an initial capacity of 2.5 million gallons per year.[4]
