Holloway Electric Light Station

An electricity supply station commissioned by the Great Northern Railway company to supply its stations and other properties in the area. It was located between the Islington Dust Yard and the Oil Gas Works of the company.
1893 Contract placed with Brush Electrical Engineering Co. Ltd for dynamos and accessories.
W. H. Preece was the consulting engineer. Separate plant was installed to light the arc lights and the incandescent (glow) lamps. Two alternators and 3 dynamos installed, all made by Mordey-Victoria. Engines by John Fowler and Co, except for 2 small engines to drive exciters by Browett-Lindley. The engines had Corliss valve gear to Marshall and Wigram's patent. Transformers supplied by Crompton and Co.
The area served by the station extended from King's Cross to Hornsey Station, includes the lighting of the Great Northern Hotel, the King 's Cross passenger and goods stations, the Holloway cattle docks, carriage sidings, the Clarence and East goods yards, North Holloway and Finsbury Park stations, goods yards, and carriage sidings, Harringay passenger station, the Ferme Park goods sidings, up and down lines, and Hornsey Station, goods yards and carriage sidings.
