1912 Obituary [1]
BOLT SAMUEL HALLETT died in London on the 11th November, 1911.
Educated at Charterhouse and Kensington School, he was trained under the late Mr. Baker, Chief Engineer of the London and North Western Railway, and afterwards assisted in the construction of railways in Lancashire and Cheshire.
In 1868 he entered the Indian Public Works Department, and was chiefly occupied in railway development in Burma.
He retired, with the rank of Executive Engineer, at the end of 1879.
Mr. Hallett was probably best known on account of his travels and explorations in China and Siam, narratives of which were contributed to the Royal Geographical Society, and published in book-form ; and for his advocacy, in conjunction with Mr. Archibald Colquhoun, of the extension, chiefly by means of railway development, of British political and commercial interests in the East.
Mr. Hallett was elected a Member of The Institution on the 7th December, 1880.
