1974 'A London-based company is to take over the major part of the former Berrill's store in Bridge Street, Spalding as a home improvement centre catering for the home decorator and handyman. To be known as the Texas Discount Store, it will be one of sixty similar stores throughout South Eastern England which are run by a holding company, Home Charm Ltd, founded in 1953. Marketing manager Mr Brian Spong told the Guardian that work is to start on the store at once and it is hoped to open before Easter. The company has leased the main part of the old store and will be running both the ground and first floor as a self-selection store, dealing in wallpaper, paints, ceramic tiles, kitchen furniture and units. take-home kits, tools and all supplies for the do-it-yourself market.'[1]
