HOWARD RUDULPH JUSTICE was born in Philadelphia on 18th November 1846.
He was privately educated, and as a young man entered a machine-shop in that city, being employed in connexion with the manufacture of pumping machinery, railway-carriage springs, and boiler fittings, &c.
Subsequently be was in the William Butcher Steel Works (now the Midvale Steel Co.), and was engaged in the manufacture of crucible steel.
Then he had a short experience of commercial life, going first to London, and visiting Spain to introduce a direct process for the production of steel from iron ore.
He finally settled in London, and devoted himself more to the commercial than the technical side of engineering.
His death took place in London, on 5th December 1918, at the age of seventy-two.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1884.
