1931 An Act of Parliament was passed authorizing the construction of a bridge across the River Humber


Eventually a suspension bridge was built, and was officially opened on 17th July 1981.

Consulting Engineers for the project were Freeman Fox and Partners.

With the main span between towers 1410m, it was at the time the longest span in the world.
