1885 The Indian Telegraph Act was the enabling legislation in India which governed the use of wired and wireless telegraphy, telephones, teletype, radio communications and digital data communications.

1887 Control of the Indo-European Telegraph Department passed to the Indian Telegraph Department in India, and the London office was closed.
