1722 'From the Evening-Post, London, Oct. 27, This Day we had one Mail from Holland..... Vienna, Oct. 17. Here is Advice from Upper-Hungary, that Mr. Isaac Porter, an English Engineer, has made there, for the Service of his Imperial Majesty, an Engine, with which by the help of Fire, 45000 Pails of Water, may in 24 Hours Time be rais'd out of a River to the height of 1000 Yards or more' [1]
