J. B. Arnold, BSc(Eng), DIC, DMS, AMBIM, Member, served his apprenticeship with Blackburn and General Aircraft Ltd, during which time he attended Hull College of Technology where he was awarded a First Class Honours Degree as an external candidate of the University of London. In 1958 he took a postgraduate course in Gas Turbine Technology at Imperial College, and was awarded a DIC.

Subsequently he worked as an aerodynamic designer of small gas turbines at Blackburn Engines Ltd.

In 1960 he was appointed a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Lanchester Polytechnic and in 1964 moved to his present position as senior lecturer at Portsmouth Polytechnic, where in 1972 he was awarded a DMS. He now has responsibility for a new CNAA multi-disciplinary course in Engineering with Business Studies.
