1917 'MANUFACTURER’S FATAL EXPERIMENT. A verdict of "Death from the accidental inhalation of poisonous gases" was returned at the inquest held last evening on Mr. John Eaton, of Heaviley House, Stockport, and head the firm J. Eaton and Co., fur cloth manufacturers, Warp Mill, Salford, and Darley Dale. Mr. Harold Eaton said his father was in the habit of making chemical experiments for fur cloth manufactures. On July 2nd he came home and complained of feeling ill, and said he had been gassed whilst making a preparation. He had at the mill proper appliances. He never recovered, and died on Saturday.'[1]

George Watkins photographed the 120 HP steam engine at the Salford Works. It was made by Daniel Adamson and Co in 1888, and ran until c.1970, with no reports of any breakdowns. It was of the Wheelock type,with a single cylinder of 16" bore and 3ft stroke, running at 100 rpm.[2]
