Mr J. F. S. Gazard (Member), newly elected Chairman of the South Wales Branch, was educated at St Bartholomew's School, Newbury, and at Cardiff Technical College.

He served his apprenticeship with the Melingriffith Co. Ltd, Tinplate Manufacturers, Cardiff, and in 1927 he was appointed Mill Foreman. He became assistant to the Works Director and in 1934 he was made Manager of the Works. The Company was then taken over by Richard Thomas and Baldwins Ltd.

During the 1939-45 war, work was undertaken for the Admiralty at Melingriffith and Mr Gazard was in charge of this.

In 1947 he was appointed Eastern Group Manager, Tinplate Division, of the Steel Company of Wales Ltd.

He is now the Deputy General Manager of the Company.

Mr Gazard became an Associate Member of the Institution in 1946 and transferred to Member in 1952. He has been a member of the Branch Committee and its Vice-Chairman during the past session.

In addition he is a member of a number of other institutions and societies, including the British Institute of Management and the Institution of Production Engineers.
