1888 Auction Notice: 'Hanover-street Spindle and Flyer Works, Collyhurst, Manchester —Important Sale of Excellent Machinery for Manufacturing Spindles; and also a Special Plant for Making the Spindle, supplied by Messrs. Kendal and Gent; Loose Articles, and Other Effects. RUSHTON & SON are instructed by Messrs. J. Gribbin and Co. (who are giving up the business) to SELL BY AUCTION (piecemeal), on Wednesday next, January llth, 1888, on the premises as above, the Whole the Excellent PLANT, MACHINERY, and EFFECTS therein, comprising double-geared, self-acting slide, aud screw-cutting lathe, 8½ centre, on iron bed 10ft. long; double-geared and single-speed hand and slide lathes, for ring polishing, rimering, spindle polishing, wharveing, &c, from 6in. to 14½ in. centres, iron beds, and wood gantrees, with top-driving apparatus, &c.; a complete set of lathes for the Rabbeth spindle, supplied Messrs, Kendal and Gent, and nearly new hardening furnace, three mule spindles, hollowing and grindstones, flyer mule spindle glazers, flyer grindstones, rattle box, three excellent spindle grinding machines, by Wm. Buck and Sons, and Howarth and Cryer; brick-built smiths' hearths, Schiele's 18in. fan, Ryder's patent three-hammer forging machine, with solid top and patent discs, Ryder and Sons, Bolton ; one ditto, another make; smiths' bellows, anvils, blocks and tools, six mule stretching blocks, two grindstones iron troughs, wood cutting and planing machine, wharve knocking-on, spindle cutting, tapping, screwing, punching, hardening, and other machines, double-geared vertical drilling machine, to take in 26in. diam.; bench and pillar drilling machines, pair lathe gantrees, 74ft. long; leather strapping, steel tools, hammers, screw keys, &c.; polished wronght-iron counter shaft, with drums, pulley, &c.; benches, store racks partitions, hand cart, wheelbarrows, timber, split and other pulleys, glazed show case, quantity of finished stock-in-trade, new stores, and general effects.—……[1]
