J. H. Riley and Co of Elton Iron Works, Bury

1887 Description and engraving of four-bowl calender. 'The 11 in. roll can be heated by a gas jet in its interior. The gas is burned with a blue flame, and both it and the air for its combustion are drawn through the roller by a steam jet in a small chimney applied to the further end. The flame spreads through the entire length of the bowl, and is a great improvement over the red-hot heaters originally employed for this purpose. ....'[1]
