1852 Patent on a paint made from decomposed india-rubber, in combination with oi1 or fatty matter, saponified by metallic salts, with lime for thickening the liquid. For treating the bottoms of ships he recommended the india-rubber, when in a fluid like state, be combined with metallic soap, thickened with lime and coloured by pigments.[1]
1859 Wrote to "The Engineer" about coating of submarine cable
