Birth of son J. R. Morris

1881 Living at 10 Bold Terrace, Chester: Joseph Morris (age 36 born Whittington, Salop), Railway, Assistant Superintendent. With his wife Elizabeth Morris (age 46 born Chester) and six children; Frances E. Morris (age 12 born Chester); Edith A. M. Morris (age 10 born Chester); Joshua R. Morris (age 8 born Chester); Edward W. Morris (age 4 born Chester); Samuel. F. H. Morris (age 6 born Chester); and Wilson Morris (age 3 months born Chester).[1]

1904 Bio Notes. 'Mr. Joseph Morris, who has been appointed superintendent of the line of the Great Western Railway on the retirement of Mr. T. I. Allen, was born Whittington, Shropshire, in 1845. He entered the service of the Great Western Railway Company as a clerk at Oswestry, in 1861, and after doing duty at several stations, was removed to the Superintendent's office, Chester, in 1864, and after passing through the various departments of the office, was in 1870 appointed clerk to the then superintendent Mr. James Kelley. In the year 1879 he became assistant to Mr. Kelley, and on the retirement of the latter gentleman in 1886, succeeded him as superintendent of the Northern Division of the Great Western system. In 1891 Mr. Morris was appointed assistant to Mr. Burlinson, the superintendent of the line at Paddington and in this capacity he has acted for the last years. During this period he has been associated with all the developments improvements that have taken place in the train service and traffic arrangements of the company. Whilst located at Chester Mr. Morris took great interest the Volunteer movement, being attached to the 2nd Volunteer Battalion of the Cheshire Regiment (Earl of Chester Rifles). He became captain in 1883 and was appointed honorary major 1893, and retired in 1894 retaining his rank, having served about 18 years.[2]

1911 Living at 15 Montpelier Road, Ealing W: Joseph Morris (age 66 born Whittington), Retired Railway Superintendent. With his wife and two sons (both railway clerks).[3]

1928 February 26th. Died at Ealing age 83. 'The death has taken place at the age of of Colonel Joseph Morris, M.V.O., formerly Superintendent of the Line of the Great Western Railway Company. He lived at Ealing. He had four sons on the G.W.R., including Mr. J. R. Morris, Division Superintendent Chester, and Mr. S. Morris, Divisional Superintendent at Gloucester.'[4]
