J. Mortimer, MSc, Member, graduated in aircraft propulsion from Cranfield Institute of Technology, and for several years was an advanced project engineer with leading aero engine companies in Britain, specialising in rocket engines, high-speed pumps, small gas turbines and hybrid diesel engines.

In 1962 he took up journalism first with The Oil Engine and Gas Turbine and later with The Engineer, of which, since 1969, he has been editor.
