John Rossall Houldsworth (1911-1934)
1934 Died. 'The British Empire Trophy race, over 300-miles course at Brooklands on Saturday, was marred tragedy. Mr. John Houldsworth, who was driving a Bugatti, took the snake "S" bend on the members' banking at high speed, when a skid developed. The car plunged through the compressed straw barricades and overturned twice. The driver was thrown out to his head and the car came to test on top him. Track officials rushed to the spot, and he was extricated with some difficulty He was unconscious when taken to hospital, and died a few hours later....Houldsworth was from Cambridge where he owned a garage'[1]
