1858 Patent. '2784. And James Apperly, Cloth Manufacturer, and William Clissold, Engineer, both of Dudbridge, in the county of Gloucester, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improved means of and apparatus for feeding fuel to furnaces."[1]

1858 Patent. 2785. And James Apperly, Cloth Manufacturer, and William Clissold, Engineer, both of Dudbridge, in the county of Gloucester, have given the like notice in respect of the invention of "improvements applicable to carding and condensing engines."[2]

1859 Patent. '927. And James Apperly, Cloth Manufacturer, and William Clissold, Engineer, both of Dudbridge, in the county of Gloucester', have given the like notice in respect of the invention of " an improved construction of fulling machine." As set forth in his petition, recorded in the said office on the 13th day of April, 1859.'[3]

1861 Patent. '2784. James Apperly, Cloth Manufacturer, and William Clissold, Engineer, both of Dudbridge, in the county of Gloucester "Improved means of, and apparatus for, feeding fuel to furnaces.'[5]

'... the Partnership heretofore subsisting between the undersigned, James Apperly, Alfred Smith, and William Clissold, in the trade of Manufacturing Engineers and Machinists, at Dudbridge, in the county of Gloucester, under the style of James Apperly and Co., was, on the 13th of March, 1871, dissolved by mutual consent...'[6]
