James Bicheno Francis (1815-1892) was a British-American civil engineer. He made important contributions to hydraulic engineering, including developing the Francis turbine.

1815 Born on 18 May in South Leigh, Whitney, Oxfordshire.

1833 Emigrated to the USA.

1892 Died on 18 September. His final home is now the Whistler House Museum of Art.[1]
