James Benjamin Burford (1883-1931)

James Benjamin Burford was born in 1883, and was apprenticed with W. H. Shawyer and Co., General Engineers, of Camden Town.

He then joined the London General Omnibus Co., where he served for sixteen years as Charge Hand, Foreman, Superintendent, and finally Section Engineer.

In 1922 he was appointed Chief Engineer of the East Surrey Traction Co., Ltd., Reigate, and this position he occupied until his death, which took place on 21st July, 1931, at the age of 48.

He was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1924.
