1829 Retires from partnership. 'James Cort the elder, Benjamin Cart, and James Barston, Leicester and Hinckley, ironmongers and seedsmen - so far as concerns James Cort the elder.'[1]

1851 Living at High Crop Street, Leicester: James Cort (age 79 born Smeeton, Leicestershire), Retired Ironfounder. With his wife Mary Cort (age 62 born Stratford, Warwickshire). Also nephew and niece. Three servants.[2]
