1885 Born son of Charles Crichton

1913 Established the business J. Crichton and Co, shipbuilders at Connah's Quay on the outskirts of the city of Chester. Initially it operated as a subsidiary of C. & H. Crichton, the ship repair business owned by the father of James Crichton.

1922 Director of J. Crichton and Co and of C. and H. Crichton, both having offices in the Tower Building, Liverpool.
