1849 Born in Dumbarton, second son of James Denny

1871 Became a partner in the shipyard

1880s Married Catherine; they had at least 4 children [1]

1891 James Denny 41, engineer and shipbuilder, lived in Dumbarton with Catherine Denny 36, Catherine Y Denny 7, Laurina C Denny 6, John M A Denny 4, William Denny 12 Months and his Brother-in-law William Kirk 38[2]

1907 Became a partner in the Denny engine works

Responsible for the introduction of the Parsons steam turbine to merchant shipping

1934 Died
