1919 Obituary[1]

"Hews, — Suddenly, on October 21, Mr. James Henry Hews, senior partner in the firm of J. H. Hews & Son, metal trades’ valuers and auctioneers, of Teddington and Sleaford, aged seventy. Mr. Hews started in business as an ironmonger about forty-five years age at Ottery St. Mary, Devonshire, in which town he remained for nearly twenty years. He then acquired an ironmongery business at Ipswich, but about twelve months later moved to Loughborough, Leicestershire, in which town he carried on business as an ironmonger until about eighteen years ago, when he sold his business' and entered into partnership with Mr. Ison, of Ashby-de-la-Zonch, as metal trades’ valuers and auctioneers. A few years later Mr. Ison died, and the business has since been carried on under its present style of J. H. Hews & Son. Mr. Hews’s experience as an auctioneer extended over a period of thirty-five years. He was a strong Churchman and Conservative."
