1841 Dissolution of the Copartnership business carried on by Hewnry Ewbank and J J Cordes, at No. 6, Idol-lane, and at Rotherhithe, under the firm of Ewbank and Cordes[1]

1840s, James Jamieson Cordes and Edward Locke developed steam turbines, building a prototype 32 HP marine turbine which ran successful trials at London’s Surrey Docks. An 1846 model of their proposed 150 HP marine turbine is on display in the London Science Museum

1857 Established the "Dos Works" in Newport, Mons - J. J. Cordes and Co

1867 January 12th. Died. Late of Bryn Glas near Newport. Probate to his son Thomas Cordes and to Frank Johnstone Mitchell.
