"Mr. James MacFarlane, whose election as first President of the new Clan MacFarlane Society was noted in last- week’s issue (p. 50), comes of the line of the chiefs, the Gartartarr branch. In addition to his Presidency of the Scottish Society he is Vice-President of the London MacFarlane Society, in connection with which he instituted a benevolent fund. Mr. MacFarlane, whose ironmongery business is at 22-24 Gallowgate, Glasgow is closely identified with the Association movement, being Vice-President of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Ironmongers Association and an ex-President of the Iron and Ironmongery Benevolent Association of Scotland."[1]
