"JAMES MELVILL ROWAN PARRY was in the service of Leyland Motors, Ltd., throughout his brief career, including his apprenticeship, which he served from 1929 to 1932. He was born in 1910 and received his early education in Switzerland, and his technical training at the Manchester College of Technology, where he obtained the Associateship, and the Harris Institute, Preston. On the completion of his practical training he was appointed research engineer and four years later he became technical assistant to the chief engineer. In 1937 he received the appointment of factory engineer for the Near East with responsibility for all service matters in Egypt, Palestine, Iraq, Greece, and Turkey, and with the charge of 600 vehicles. He returned to his post under the chief engineer in 1939, but after seven years' further experience went to Teheran to represent the company. Mr. Parry, who died in an accident in Iran on 22nd March 1951 in his forty-first year, was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1937 and transferred to Associate Membership in 1940."
