Born in Ireland. Trained as a foundryman in England, at the works of Thomas Whitwell. Married in Lancashire, where his son John was born in 1867 (John went on to become Superintendent of the blast furnaces at the Sloss-Sheffield Co). Emigrated to the USA with his family in 1874. He initially worked for W. R. Thomas at the Roane Iron Works near Catasauqua, Pa., as Thomas's first foundry expert. .....[1]
