Born at Exeter the son of John Veitch

1814 Married (1) at Broadclyst, Exeter, to Mary Batten Tosswill and had five sons and two daughters

1815 Birth of son James Veitch

1823 Birth of son Robert Tosswill Veitch

1831 Married (2) at Fleet Street, London, to Rebecca Tosswill

1863 May 14th. Died. 'We regret to announce the death of Mr. James Veitch, of the Exeter Nursery, which took place very suddenly yesterday (Thursday), shortly before the hour fixed for the funeral of his late wife, who also died suddenly on the previous Thursday. The numerous friends of the family deeply sympathise with them in their sudden and lamentable bereavement. Mr. James Veitch was in his 72nd year.[1]

Upon his death the two nurseries were separated. The nursery in Exeter traded as Robert Veitch and Son and the Chelsea nursery as James Veitch and Sons
